In
1992, the District Board of Trustees, together with the
parents, teachers, and staff of Peabody School started the
process of breaking new ground in elementary education in
California when Peabody became the first public
school in Santa Barbara County to receive charter status.
This new ground included a charter based on parent involvement
and self-governance, re-opening our on-site cafeteria, a
comprehensive physical education program, an extensive music
program, a firm commitment to second language acquisition
of all students, and an enriching arts program.
Current
programs of distinction beyond the school day include Italian,
Digital Photography, Film Making, Scientific Illustration
all taught by guest instructors who are experts in each
respective discipline. Adult classes in Beginning to Intermediate
Spanish, English, and Digital Photography are available
to adults.
One
of our school's most cherished traditions is our Fireside
Family Reading Night each Thursday when school is in session.
From 6:00-7:30 families are welcome to checkout a book and
enjoy reading by our fireplace. A local musician, guest
reader, or story teller is on hand each week to bring the
magic of storytelling to life. Our computer lab is open
from 5:30-7:30 with Photoshop CS, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
being some of the software that highlight the resources
available to the community. There is no web browsing available
during this evening event.
