Message from the Principal - Panther Press

February 2012

Second graders Owen Herrell and Sam Staukas are definitely making a difference in our community and have taken on a BIG cause! Every day this past week they presented me with huge plastic bags stuffed to the brim with garbage that they had collected on the playground. They took this effort on entirely independently and have developed a Master Plan for eliminating garbage on our campus that they will present at the next Student Council Meeting. Way to go, Owen and Sam!

The JOG-A-THON KICK-OFF ASSEMBLIES will be held on February 9 at 12:45 and 1:50!! The Jog-a-thon is one of the highlights of the entire school year. This year Mr. Holbrook and his committee have come up with some amazing prizes as well as some "wet and wild" incentives that will be presented at the kick-off assembly. MORE to come in the next eNews bulletin!

COLDS, FLU, OR OTHER ILLNESSES. Josie, our health technician, has asked me to remind you about our school's policy regarding illnesses. Children who have any of the following symptoms should be kept at home: 1) temperature above 100F- child must be fever free for at least 24 hours before return, 2) vomiting - no vomiting within 24 hours before return, 3) excessive coughing, 4) green or yellow nasal discharge, 5) student feeling too ill or uncomfortable to concentrate or function well in the classroom. Please help us to prevent the spread of disease by following these guidelines!

Budget News... Next year's State budget looms ominously on the horizon with more reductions to education for 2012/2013. State "trigger cuts" projected for 2012-2012 are estimated at $268,259. and this on top of pre-existing cuts to school budgets! Governor Brown is trying to get a tax initiative on the November 2012 ballot and additional potential reduction of State funding will occur if voters reject it. This year we were able to save programs and people because of the wonderful generosity of Peabody parents and friends. Thank you again for supporting our wonderful school!!
